Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR ALVIN WIKSTROM 1919 - 2008 On Sunday, July 27, 2008 Arthur passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Arthur was predeceased by his wife Sylvia on February 1, 2006. Nine brothers and sisters also predeceased him. Arthur is survived by his sister Dorothy Trinier of Orillia, Ontario and by numerous nieces and nephews. Arthur shared a close relationship with two nephews and their families, Bill Hinther and wife Judy and Bob Hinther and wife Trish. Arthur had six years of military service (1939 - 1945) as a member of the Royal Canadian Engineers. His war service took him to many parts of Europe. He was wounded in Sicily. It was during the war that Mr. Johnson of Redding, England befriended the young Canadian soldier. He introduced Arthur to his daughter Sylvia Johnson. Sylvia and Arthur fell in love and were married on May 5, 1945 in England. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2005. Following the end of the war, Arthur returned to Winnipeg where he found employment with the Canadian Pacific Railway at the Weston Shops. He retired from the CPR in 1979. Arthur was very proud of his association with the Royal Canadian Legion. He received his 55-year pin in 2007 and had also been previously honoured with a life membership. He was a very dedicated member of the General Sir Sam Steele Legion and served the Branch in a variety of capacities. At the time of his death, Arthur was the Honourary President of the Branch. Arthur also belonged to the Arlington Sports Club. They honoured him with a life membership for his many years of service. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Bhanot and the many health care workers at the Seven Oaks Hospital for their excellent care and compassion given to Arthur. A service to honour the memory of Arthur will take place on Friday, August 1, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the General Sir Sam Steele Legion, 376 Salter Street with Rev. R. Kunzelman officiating. Internment will take place at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street.
